Hair and scalp consultation
The visit dedicated to hair and scalp: why it is falling, what is causing it, and what can actually be recovered.

Why it gets its own visit
Because "my hair is falling out" is not a diagnosis: it's a symptom with many different causes, and each one is treated differently.
The consultation is led by Dr. Tania Fernández Cavazos, a dermatologist with training in trichology and currently completing a master's degree in the field.
What gets examined
- Full history: since when, how it started, what happened three or four months earlier — hair reacts on a delay.
- Trichoscopy: the scalp under magnification, showing shaft thickness, miniaturization, and whether there is inflammation or scarring.
- The pattern of the loss: diffuse, in patches, along the part, at the temples.
- Blood work when the history calls for it: thyroid, iron, hormones.
- Photographic follow-up, because hair improvement is seen by comparing, not by remembering.
What is treated here
- Androgenetic alopecia, in men and in women.
- Alopecia areata.
- Diffuse shedding after childbirth, dieting, illness or severe stress.
- Scarring alopecias, where time genuinely matters.
- Seborrheic dermatitis and dandruff.
- Nail problems, which belong to the same specialty.
Worth knowing before you come
- Don't wash your hair that morning if you can avoid it: the scalp is easier to read.
- Come without fresh color or styling product.
- Bring any recent lab work.
- Bring photos of yourself from one or two years ago. They are the best reference for how much has changed.
Frequently asked questions
How long before I see improvement?
Months. The hair cycle is slow and no treatment speeds it up; the first thing that improves is that it stops falling.
Will it shed more when I start treatment?
With some treatments there is a temporary increase in shedding in the first weeks. You are told beforehand, because that is exactly when people quit.
Do I need blood work?
If the history suggests it, yes. Thyroid and iron are among the first things ruled out in diffuse shedding.
Do you see men as well?
Yes. Male androgenetic alopecia is one of the most common reasons for this visit.
